The International Trade Centre's Division of Market Development (DMD) provides trade relatedtechnical assistance (TRTA) particularly in relation to trade intelligence and sector development. The division offers a range of services in relation to trade development, trade facilitation, tradenegotiations, sector development and competitiveness strategies. Furthermore, the division provideskey strategic inputs to corporate initiatives, strategies, communication, and analysis of various topicsof relevance to ITC and the beneficiaries of the TRTA provided by the organisation.The Market Analysis and Research Section (MAR) supports trade policy makers, trade supportinstitutions and enterprises in developing countries in identifying opportunities for product and exportmarket diversification. It does this by developing and maintaining data-driven analytical tools, trade-related analysis methodologies and by offering a wide range of capacity building activities indeveloping countries for market analysts and export-oriented managers in the public and privatesectors to conduct effective market analysis, an essential element of successful export strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Market Analyst and under the general guidance of theChief, MAR the incumbent will:
- Provide project management for multiple ongoing data processing exercises ensuring they arecompleted on time and with the required quality;
- Work cooperatively with the Market Access Map as needed;Contribute to the design of an impact assessment questionnaire;
- Work in collaboration with colleagues to analyze and produce a report on the test-phase of theimpact assessment survey;
- Work with annual tariff data at the tariff line level from a variety of countries at all phases of theprocess, from formatting datasets to checking the reliability of data;
- Work with official non-tariff data in all phases of the process: formatting datasets, checking thereliability of data by writing programs in SAS or similar software;
- Work on data of rules of origins to update Market Access Map;
- Calculate statistical indicators from the relevant data subset, using the SAS software;
- Perform other duties as required.
Education:
University degree in quantitative analysis or statistics, mathematics or econometrics.
Note: An advanced degree in quantitative analysis or statistics, mathematics or econometrics may beaccepted in lieu of the experience requirements.
Work Experience:
A minimum of two years of professional experience in data processing andstatistics preferably at the international level.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced knowledge in the analysis of market access and other trade related data.
- Capacity toimplement the full range of activities involved in data collection, analysis and formatting.
- Ability todevelop programs for quantitative market analysis on the basis of fourth-generation software such asSAS, or similar and database software.
- Strong analytical capabilities.Knowledge of international trade desirable.
Languages:
Advanced English. Knowledge of French or Spanish an asset.
Knowledge of other UNofficial languages is an asset.
