Description
The Applications, Media and Publishing team is responsible for creating the next-generation in-the-box Apps for Windows tablets, Windows Phone and Xbox. The Design group is seeking an exceptional lead designer with a proven track record for creating beautiful, elegant and impactful design solutions. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone who is excited about making an impact on the Windows tablet, Windows Phone and Xbox experiences.
You will work with Design, Product, and Engineering teams to create beautiful touch-based apps that facilitate what users want to do and delight them along the way. You will conceptualize and design original ideas that bring simplicity and ease of use to complex design issues. The individual will oversee the activities of a team of designers and lead design direction for a portfolio of high-profile Windows 8 pre-install apps.
The candidate must be a thought leader and craftsperson, be able to drive design direction, ensure team effectiveness and cross group collaboration. Your design work is clean, focused and inspiring to others. Applicants must feel very comfortable leading design through all phases of the product design cycle. You can easily switch from micro to macro - from understanding the strategic value of our organization’s app strategy to creating design systems that are scalable, extensible through to finessing visual designs at a pixel level.
You will oversee your team’s day-to-day responsibilities, setting goals, building relationships and creating a highly creative environment for the design team to flourish. The right person will be both a fantastic manager and talented designer- splitting your time between hands-on design work and team management.

Requirements:
5+ years’ experience of Product design with a minimum of 5 years’ experience with online services.
1+ year’s management experience.
Strong command of visual design capabilities, including composition, layout information hierarchy, typography and color.
User-centric approach to design and an understanding of how to apply user research data.
An ability to create/ prototype design stories that articulate the desired user experience to the project team and stakeholders.
Strong collaboration and people management skills. Proven ability to lead, inspire, and nurture teams with direction, vision and planning.
A working understanding of HTML and experience with agile engineering methods is essential. CSS skills would be a plus but not essential.
Highly proficient with Adobe Creative Suite software.
Excellent verbal/ written communication and presentation skills.
Passion for design and ability to effectively share your point of view and expertise with project team members.
Offer active thought leadership in User Experience issues and trends
Develop and document detailed user experience specifications for highly interactive interfaces.
