DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative (FAOR) and the Deputy FAO Representative in the Sudan, the supervision of the Assistant Director General /Regional Representative of the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa, and in consultation with the relevant FAO headquarters Lead Technical Unit and FAO headquarters and RNE Technical Officers, and close collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the incumbent will manage, administer and oversee the implementation of Integrated Food Security Project (IFSP) in Kassala in line with FAO's rules and procedures and provide technical assistance. In particular, the incumbent will:
- lead, manage, administer and oversee the implementation of the project and ensure that FAO procedures are adhered to;
- provide guidance to and supervise international and national project staff; be responsible for project leadership and ensure coordination between FAO and UNIDO activities, within their respective components, allowing for synergies that reinforce the overall project objectives;
- provide the agricultural component of the project with the necessary technical assistance on policy, strategy and technical matters;
- guide and assist in developing and strengthening the capacity of local institutions and organizations and communities, to be carried out in consultation with the relevant ministries, local authorities and non-state partners;
- coordinate training activities and when appropriate participate in conducting some of the courses;
- in close coordination with UNIDO Project Coordinator, establish and maintain effective links with government officials and national and international partners involved in implementation of the project, and assist in coordinating the interventions for strengthening the country's human capacities related to agricultural sector;
- in coordination with the project gender specialist, ensure that project interventions take into account gender differentiated needs of beneficiaries;
- monitor progress of implementation in relation to annual work plan ( including the component implemented by UNIDO) in particular timeliness, achievement of project objectives and impact, and implement corrective measures when needed; ensure the preparation of reports as required by the donor agreement and ensure preparation of briefs;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Candidates should meet the following:
- Advanced university degree in agriculture, agriculture extension, rural development or related field
- Ten years of relevant experience in agriculture and/or rural development project managements with capacity building, including coordination of rural development projects dealing especially with the social mobilization of communities and related capacity building and experience in Africa
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of Arabic or one of the other languages of the Organization (Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish)
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
- Extent and relevance of experience in management and coordination of development projects and coordination of multidisciplinary teams
- Extent and relevance of experience in capacity building of rural institutions and extension services within the agricultural sector in developing countries, preferably in post-conflict countries
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation of multi-year plans and budgets using result-based management approach Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, implement and report on work
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with UN agencies, NGOs and government ministries
- Extent and relevance of experience in Africa and the Sudan or other Arab speaking countries is considered a strong asset
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English and limited ability to speak Arabic
