Role Purpose

Bing is embarking on the most ambitious geographic and product expansion in its 4 year history. International is now front and center at Bing. The Online Services Division (OSD) is charged to make Bing a quality product in 75 markets around the world, driven by the needs of Microsoft’s core products and global strategic alliances - Windows 8, Windows Phone, Office, Xbox, Nokia, Yahoo and others. You will help lead in global planning, resource allocation and reporting of business development deals and projects, and drive global engineering and business development alignment for strategic partnerships and tactical deals in key search content areas such as local, entertainment, sports, products, and social, for delivery via the PC, mobile, tablets, Xbox and other devices, across all international markets. In addition, you will drive and execute strategic and tactical deals with selected partners to complement the work of field business development teams worldwide, and work on other strategic international projects. Mission: The Bing International BD team’s primary mission is to leverage the engineering, brand, data/content and people assets of Microsoft and of carefully selected third parties, to profitably deliver world-class Bing product experiences (‘build the Bing product’) to our global audiences, via Microsoft’s leading 1st party products. In the process, we want to establish ourselves as trusted strategic advisors to our key internal and external stakeholders.

Talent: The Business Development group within the Online Services Division (OSD) is a worldwide team of seasoned business and technology leaders with extensive experience at Microsoft, at other online, search, media and software companies, and/or at leading professional services firms - consulting, investment banking, and law.

Key Accountabilities
Provide thought leadership to structure and organize the global planning process for international business development deals, aligning global search product requirements with the resources of multiple globally distributed engineering and business development teams, to develop, monitor and maintain a clear and prioritized plan.
Drive, structure, execute and gain executive support for complex 3rd party deals for search content and technology, and for strategic and financial partnerships, to enhance Bing product experiences. 
Apply analytical methodologies like buy/build/license analysis and financial/ROI modeling, to assess strategic deals and projects, which can measurably impact Bing’s market share, revenues, and contribution margin.

Have shared responsibility for building and shipping the Bing product in international markets, working tightly with globally distributed business development, engineering and product marketing teams, on an engineering and marketing cadence. 
Become a trusted strategic advisor to engineering and marketing teams, and win a seat at the table to frame, develop and execute product and partner strategies relevant to each market. 
Build and maintain key partner relationships and become an advocate for your partners within Microsoft. 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1. Essential Experience
Prior experience with and solid understanding of online and/or search technologies (web and mobile), and 5-10 yrs experience of executing complex product driven structured business deals and/or complex projects, with at least 3-5 years in online and/or search content licensing and planning, working in close cooperation with engineering teams to build search/online products and services. 2-3 yrs. of successful managerial experience is a plus.

2. Technical/Functional Skills

The candidate must have highly developed analytical skills to organize vast amounts of information/data, and conflicting priorities into coherent plans. In addition, the candidate must possess strong deal negotiation skills, a broad understanding of the online space, demonstrated technical aptitude, intense curiosity about online and search technologies, and a solid working knowledge of intellectual property, legal and contractual issues.

The candidate should demonstrate solid interpersonal and collaborative skills to effectively mobilize internal and external resources including Microsoft groups including engineering, legal, corporate development, corporate strategy, and finance, and external partners spanning Global 1000 companies as well as venture-backed start-ups.

2. Qualifications

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree, with a strong preference for engineering (ideally computer science or computer engineering). MBA and/or JD is preferred, with 5+ years of post-college experience, with a reasonable portion of that time spent working in areas directly relevant to the responsibilities described above, in managerial, planning and deal making roles with solidly demonstrated career progression.

Special Requirements/Additional Information e.g. Language Skills
Candidates should have high fluency (written and spoken, business and technical) in English (other languages a strong plus), and some familiarity with Asian, European and/or Latin American business and social cultures.

The role may involve significant international travel (30-40% at times).
