Background

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director Programmes, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, implementation and day-to-day management of the education project activities within the Human Dimension Programme. S/he works closely together with the specialist programme officers to ensure coordination and coherence between all elements of the education activities. The incumbent provides support and advice to the Project Manager(s) and the Department`s senior management on education related issues, and overall guidance to the field officers working on education. S/he is the focal point for all technical aspects and issues related to the management of the education activities.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the implementation of the Education project activities through day-to-day management of the specialist programme officers in Head Office;
  • Ensures consistency and coordination in the implementation of the different elements of the project with a focus on anti-discrimination and increasing tolerance and respect for diversity;
  • Serves as the focal point in the Education Team for all technical issues (PCM) related to the management of the Education project activities, including reporting on progress in achieving the objectives;
  • Provides integrated analysis and recommendation to the Project Manager(s) and HDD Management on development and strategy adjustments through identification of lessons learnt, current trends, achievements, problems and future plans;
  • Provides field officers with advice and direction in the field of education, in particular by keeping field staff focused on anti-discrimination and respect for diversity.
Together with the Project Manager(s) coordinates with international and domestic organizations active in the field of education to ensure optimum results and impact of the education activities;
  • Performs other duties as required.
Necessary Qualifications
  • University Degree in Law, Education, Political Science, International Affairs, Public Policy or related field of studies;
  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in an international organization or an NGO active in the (broad) education sector;
  • Established project management skills;
  • Established communication, planning and organizational skills;
  • Computer literate with practical experience in all Microsoft applications;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and in the local language;
  • Ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
  • Holding a valid driving license.
