Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) was established by the Secretary-General in 2005. It is the United Nations designated entity to bring together into one coherent framework decades of the United Nations counter-terrorism policy and legal responses emanating from the General Assembly, Security Council and relevant United Nations Specialized agencies. The CTITF is part of the Department of Political Affairs (DPA) and is located at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The position is located in the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT), within the CTITF Office. UNCCT implements and supports counter-terrorism projects. The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the UNCCT Programme Officer.
The Department of Political Affairs internships are for two months with an opportunity for an extension, depending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority and under the supervision of the UNCCT Programme Officer, the Intern will be assigned to the following duties:
- Work with UNCCT staff to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of UNCCT projects, etc.; monitor and analyze specific aspects of project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
- Assist in adapting on-going projects to PRINCE2 project management method.
- Carry out basic research on selected aspects of projects, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
- Provide substantive support for project coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies.
- Assist in planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions.
- Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
- Perform other duties as required.

Education
- Bachelor degree or equivalent. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) preferably in political science, international relations, law, public administration or related field.
- If pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
- Experience in Microsoft Office; experience in the use of MS Project is an advantage
Work Experience
- Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Internship Programme.
- Experience with project management, including development of logical frameworks, is an advantage.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
- For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
