Organizational Setting and Reporting
The Facilities and Commercial Services Division (FCSD)is seeking 2 (two) interns.
The positions are located in the office of the Senior Advisor for Sustainability. FCSD is made up of two services: the Facilities Management Service (FMS) which provides, inter alia, waste management services, and the Commercial Activities Service (CAS) which provides, inter alia, cafeteria and catering services.
The Facilities Management Service internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension, pending the needs of the Office.
The internships are UNPAID and full time. Interns work 5 days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the section to whom they are assigned.
Responsibilities
The interns will be given responsibilities that will assist their learning and experience in data gathering/management/reporting and practical aspects of environmental sustainability management in a large and complex organization.
Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor for Sustainability, and within delegated authority, the interns will assist in the following duties:
Contribute to the development of an emissions reduction plan for the UN Secretariat in New York, building on existing data and information;
Conduct an audit of waste practices in designated areas of the main Secretariat building and make recommendations for possible improvements;
Contribute to preparing the annual Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory for the UN Secretariat in New York (buildings, travel and transport);
Assist in measuring and reporting on environmental sustainability management using ISO, 14001, GRI and LEED;
Assist in data manipulation using Excel; and
Other related duties, as required

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) or if pursuing their studies in countries where a higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, must have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent Institution towards the completion of a degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs which include a willingness to try and understand differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for this vacancy.
Languages
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
