Organizational Setting and Reporting
The HR Enterprise Support Centre internship is for a period of 2 to 6 months from September 2013 to March 2014.
The HR Enterprise Support Centre is located in Bangkok (Thailand) and it is part of the HR Information Systems Section, Office of Human Resources Management.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (37 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Assist in maintaining a forecast by project of current and planned IT resources for a given area of responsibility.
  • Analyze data and prepare report/presentation of background information for facilitating project formulation and implementation.
  • Update demand forecast based on latest needs from team leaders and shifts in project priorities. Review with each team needs and identify any risks or opportunities.
  • Select information and records in specific format or on the basis of general instructions for use in preparing reports, correspondence, project plans and general reference documents.
  • Working with each team, and identify specific resources needed for upcoming projects (next 2-3 months) and identify any additional needs. Work with project leads to improve resource planning and forecasting.
  • Provide assistance by preparing cost estimate and make the wide range of necessary arrangements required for the implementation of HR Enterprise Support Centre activities under regular budget and extra-budget. Calculate and compile cost estimates and project budget requirements, and assist in preparation of budget statements that are aligned with project deliverables.
  • Compile the flow of information and data between all concerned parties in HR Enterprise Support Centre.
  • Assist in managing resource scheduling conflicts; e.g. if a resource is available sooner or later than expected, identify issue and suggest the alternative for resolution.
  • Assist in External Vendor/Contracting agency management contact; engaging with the team regarding potential and existing resource needs.
  • Modify and update manual of operations containing specific and relevant written procedures, policies and forms to meet quality standard requirements.
  • Assist on the assignment to develop and maintain methodologies for project and resource reviews during projects or when they complete.
  • Compile feedback on resource performance on a project and store for future reference.
  • Additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work team.

Education
  • Applicants must currently be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school(second university degree or higher) in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Economics, Management Science, or related fields; or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least fours years of full-studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme.
