The Donor Relations Officer (DRO) is an experienced major gifts fundraising professional responsible for working collaboratively across all departments and revenue channels.

Detailed Description

The Donor Relations Officer (DRO) is an experienced major gifts fundraising professional responsible for working collaboratively across all departments and revenue channels to:

• Raise funds for the JDRF mission by creating deeper relationships with high giving capacity constituents (>10k annually) across all revenue streams;
• Ensure that all major donors, regardless of revenue channel, have a high quality, increasingly personalized experience with JDRF and understand the impact of their giving.

The DRO is accountable for maintaining a portfolio of prospects in his/her respective JDRF Division while working collaboratively as part of a larger Regional and Chapter based team to achieve larger fundraising goals. The ideal candidate must be able to articulate the overall vision and strategic direction of JDRF while maintaining a strong grasp of research initiatives. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the aptitude for persuasion are crucial in this position. Being results-driven with the talent for creative problem solving is also a must. The DRO is responsible for a range of comprehensive development functions focused on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual prospects and donors, with additional emphasis on building the prospect pipeline. The DRO collaborates with Division leadership on strategic planning, goal setting and implementation and ensures coordination and effectiveness of prospect solicitation, events and recognition/stewardship activities.

PRIORITY DRO RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Partner with Division and Regional leadership and the chapters to generate revenue through major gifts of $10,000+ across all revenue streams with an emphasis on 6- and 7-figure gifts.
• Work to ensure ongoing revenue growth with strategic focus on retaining and upgrading donors while building a robust pipeline of prospects.
• Work with Division leadership to develop organizational strategic
fundraising plan.

SPECIFIC DRO RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as "moves manager" for a discrete set of prospects across all revenue streams in the Chapters they serve (Personal Portfolio -- estimate 60-100 prospects for mature portfolio).
• Provide strategic and tactical support on all other identified prospects (Consulting Portfolio)
• Build the overall portfolio with qualified prospects from across all revenue channels.
• Consistently recognizes gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors
• Support a donor-centric culture by encouraging staff to think beyond individual events and annual budgets and consider long-term, strategic donor-driven giving.
• Accurately track and measure all fundraising and donor prospecting activity.
• Act as training and educational resource for the division on moves management and donor engagement activities.
• Engage in regular face-to-face visits, asks, calls and personal correspondence with current donors and prospects.
• Attend board meetings and events as needed
• Maintain knowledge regarding JDRF's research priorities.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 7+ years of success professional individual and foundation major gift fundraising experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Track record of working effectively with volunteers and staff through effective persuasion and influencing techniques.
• Able to effectively apply moves management techniques and to utilize prospect research tools.
• Able to work and make judgments independently and take initiative. Self-starter that requires little supervision.
• Strong organizational, managerial/mentoring and leadership skills; able to quickly address conflicts to achieve effective solutions.
• Able to effectively establish priorities and work in a fast paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
• Superior active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills.
• Ensure that the confidentiality and security of all information under his/her supervision is maintained.
• Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor and senior management.
• Understand of various computer systems and databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
• Experience in developing budgets.
• Excellent writing, presentation and public speaking skills.
• Ability to travel at least 50% of the time, including overnight travel and weekends.
