Description
Windows Patent Team Attorney
PATENT ATTORNEY FOR WINDOWS PATENT TEAM - As an attorney supporting the Windows organization, you’ll have an opportunity to provide general patent counseling to the Windows business and significantly contribute to the success of Microsoft’s efforts to be a worldwide IP leader.
This role is part of the Windows Patent Team in Microsoft’s Patent Group. As a Windows Patent Attorney, your responsibilities will include:
• Counsel and partner with the Windows business to develop and implement IP strategies, including patent filing strategies to protect strategic innovations
• Strategically develop and manage the Windows patent portfolio to advance Microsoft’s business goals
• Supervise outside counsel to properly prepare and prosecute patent applications
• Evaluate third party patent infringement claims against Windows and provide guidance and counsel to executives
• Evaluate and negotiate in-bound patent licenses
• Provide advice and counsel to the Windows business on patent related standards and open source issues
• Provide support to business attorneys on patent related issues in commercial and technology transactions
• Support in-house and outside patent litigation attorneys in patent litigations, including guidance and counsel to Windows executives and management
• Support outbound patent licensing and patent cross licensing efforts
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you should have graduated from an ABA accredited law school, be admitted to practice in at least one State in the US, and be admitted to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office. You should also have a minimum of 4 years of experience practicing intellectual property law in a law firm or large corporation, in areas such as: patent counseling, patent related transactions and licensing, patent opinion work (invalidity/non-infringement) and/or patent litigation, and preparation and prosecution of patent applications. A technical background in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering is also strongly preferred. You should also have strong communications skills, and a collaborative, team oriented approach to your work.
