Basic purpose

Under the general direction of the Scientist/Crop Modeler, the successful candidate will plan, design and develop IRRI Geo-Climate Management (IGCM) Toolkit with the required documentation. Coordinate closely with end-users and design team during the development phase. Train the end-users on the product. Manage the storage and retrieval of data and will be responsible for the administration of systems.

He/She will implement the system to conduct large scale yield simulators for various projects involving ORYZA2000 rice growth model. These projects include Asia rice yield gap analysis, Remote sensing-based Information and Insurance for Crops in emerging Economies (RIICE), IRRI rice monitoring system (IRMTR), and Climate Impact on Agronomy and Rice Economy (CARE).

Roles and responsibilities

Plan, design and develop IRRI Geo-Climate Management (IGCM) for end-users/stakeholders

• Trouble shoot and maintain as per user requirement on software / applications
• Improve design / program / database
• Provide technical support to end-users (e.g. software support for users) and facilitate requests and provide instructions

Documentation

• Produce documentations and materials coming from IGCM, such as codes, tables and reports

Data management on IGCM

• Manage the storage and retrieval of data and information for IGCM

System administration

• Assess user requirements for systems
• Determine appropriate environment to use systems
• Evaluate software for general use for improvement

Coordination

• Coordinate closely with end-users and design team on the development of software and the database

Training

• Train end-users on the use of or access to software/program/database
• Develop manuals user-training materials and/or modules

Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time

Qualification requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent IT related course, or Statistics with 4 years of work experience; or
• Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent IT related course, or Statistics with 1 years of work experience.

Specific skills required:

Mandatory

• Has excellent knowledge in computer software and programming
• Has experience in handling large data sets
• Has experience in designing software programs/databases
• Has some knowledge of and experience with computer science fundamentals
• Has knowledge of and experience high level computer programming languages and relational database programming
• Has some knowledge of different operating systems
• Has knowledge and experience in implement program such as Delphi, C++, Java, PHP, MySQL, HTML5
• Experience in Delphi & R programming languages, and ArcGIS software are useful but not required. Experience in handling large data sets

Preferred

• Ability to learn a process-based crop growth simulation model such as ORYZA200
• Familiar with GIS and statistical software
