Senior Research Officer with the Research Group of Enteric Vaccines under the Centre for Vaccine Sciences (Advertisement-DW #270/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Senior Research Officer with the Research Group of Enteric Vaccines under theCentre for Vaccine Sciences. Appointment will be made on a Daily Wage basis for 2 months.
Duty station- Dhaka
Daily Wage Rate – Tk.1,569/- per day. No other benefit is admissible.
Job Profile
- Proposal and Protocol Development: Study published journals, analyze laboratory assay data, review stored samples available; Draft concept notes in collaboration with colleagues and PIs; Prepare proposals with direction from Principal Investigators (PIs); Support PI in presentation of proposal to donors (e.g. by creating supporting materials for distribution to donors); Develop research protocol based on proposal or concept notes; Assess staffing and material requirements for protocol execution and estimate budgets; Supply Institutional Review Board (IRB) with any information they require in order to support PIs with fund-raising and project planning;
- Project Implementation: Create training material on research project; Train team members, and partner organization staff on research project and protocol methods; Receive samples from field staff or use stored samples; Distribute work among team; Conduct different laboratory assay e.g. real time RT-PCR, tissue culture preparation, nucleic acid sequencing etc, and monitor tests done by the team; Resolve issues, and raise escalations to supervisor, if required; Mentor and train staff on-the-job; Monitor and track consumption of resources; Raise requisitions and follow-up for action; Analyze database and prepare preliminary analysis for supervisor in order to conduct high-quality research;
- Scientific Analysis and Knowledge Creation: Perform and carry out laboratory assays or research based assigned duties as per direction from supervisor; Create report with findings and share with supervisor; Revise analysis based on guidance from supervisor and discussions with other team members; Write sections of the manuscript under advice of supervisor; Present intellectual capital developed as a result of research at external platforms such as conferences and seminars etc. for continuous dissemination of research findings;
- Routine Laboratory Management Work: Prepare list of requisition for stock/non-stock laboratory reagent and consumable to laboratory coordination officer; Assure appropriate bio-safety measures in the assigned laboratory during testing; Discard pathogens in Hypo-chrolide; Neutralise harsh reagents before disposing PPE; Discard waste material in bio-hazard bag for autoclaving and incineration; Report results, maintaining strict confidentiality; Store positive samples for research; Update SPSS database with results; Perform statistical analysis for forecasting of budget; Analyze data to look for new information for publication, and to identify new research ideas; Train staff (fellows etc.) on bio-safety procedures;
- Quality Assurance: Read latest literature regarding tests and procedures; Review and update quality assurance manual; Train other staff on quality processes; Participate in external quality assurance schemes.
Requirements:
Education and Relevant Experience:
- Masters in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology/Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Candidates having a Masters degree from any reputed University from abroad will be given preference.
- 3 years of work experience with molecular biology, bio-statistics, scientific writing, or research methodology.
- At least 5 publications with more than 3 first authorship journal articles.
