Role Purpose: Conduct original research and analysis on macroeconomic and/or sector policy issues of relevance to IDB mission and mandate, especially in the fields of international trade and investment, and regional economic integration
Key Accountabilities and Activities:
  • Initiate and undertake analytical work on macroeconomic and/or sector issues, especially in the areas of international trade and investment, globalization and economic integration;
  • Prepare research papers for the Chief Economist Complex (CEC) Working Papers Series, policy briefs, research notes, current information notes on development topics.
  • Participate in policy dialogue missions, conduct diagnostic studies, and prepare analysis of macroeconomic and/or sector policy issues in member countries to support IDB Group initiatives;
  • Monitor trends and prospects in the global economy and analyse their impacts on member countries' economies and IDB Group activities.
  • Prepare and contribute to IDB publications such as Occasional Papers, IDB Annual Report and other flagship reports;
  • Oversee the knowledge contents of department's organized events, such as Expert Group Meetings, IDB Symposia, seminars and workshops;
  • Prepare concept notes and proceedings of major events organized in the CEC.
  • Participate and contribute to knowledge sharing activities of IDB Group including Communities of Practice and IDB Knowledge Management activities;
  • Initiate and contribute to new knowledge products to support the transformation of IDB Group into a Knowledge based Institution;
  • Prepare statements, speeches and power point presentations for the management;
  • Represent the Department in inter-departmental meetings and the Bank in regional conferences, seminars and workshops;
  • Review technical reports and IDB policy papers and assess their relevance to various initiatives of IDB Group.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with
  • Master's degree
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with
  • Ph.D. degree
Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Economics from a recognized university
Required skills and competencies:
  • Ability to apply econometric methods for economic analysis
  • Ability to translate complex economic analysis into policy advice to different stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of international trade theory, FDI, globalization and regional economic integration, supported by sound publications record;
  • Familiarity with socio-economic context of one or more of IDB regions;
  • Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in Arabic and French is highly desirable.
