Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This post is located in UNEP/DEPI at the Geneva duty station. Under the direct supervision of the Head of Programme the incumbent will;
Responsibilities
Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned field projects related to the implementation of environmental diplomacy and mediation support. This includes designing and implementing field assessments, conducting consultations with stakeholders, supervising consultants, presenting the findings at national and international events, and monitoring the impact of activities.
Prepares global level policies and reports on environmental diplomacy and mediation as well as linked topics on climate change and environmental security in collaboration with UN partners. This includes the review and analysis of issues and trends, identification of best practices and lessons learned, as well as drafting and global disseminationof final report.
Undertakes outreach and advocacy activities concerning UNEP's work on environmental diplomacy and mediation. This includes conducting training workshops and seminars, making presentations on assigned topics/activities, participating in broader UN policy development processes, and coordinating the production of specific communications products such as video and promotional firms on Environmental Cooperation for Peacebuilding-led activities.
Coordinates activities related to project development, budget and funding. This includes the preparation of project documents and budgets as well as progress reports, inputs to the programme of work, financial statements, etc. as we) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
Work on the interlinkages and cooperation with the business sector on conflict prevention and peacebuilding. This includes participating in technical meetings, conducting consultations and identifying potential partners.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in natural sciences and advanced studies in economics or related area. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position will include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
