Job Category: Hardware EngineeringLocation: Redmond, WA, USJob ID: 837182-111526Division: (Not Division Specific)

Description

Scope of Responsibilities
Acoustic system level and component level design responsibilities in the development of concept explorations and technology investigations.
You will research, design, and develop the acoustical and mechanical designs for the audio portion of our products; Your goal is to optimize the performance of the audio subsystem within the constraints of the total design. This will include:
o Developing the product acoustic performance requirements
o Defining the mechanical and industrial-design constraints
o Closely working with user experience, mechanical, electrical, systems, and DSP engineers to design and select audio design for product.
o Lead acoustic-mechanical design and selection of transducer, acoustic chamber/porting, and related materials; Ensure audio integration with systems meeting product acoustic/vibration
requirements
o Create evaluation models and run simulations using lumped element method, finite element method, or boundary element method.
o Prototyping and validating the designs throughout the development cycle by defining and executing appropriate tests
Interface across multiple disciplines
Interface directly with sub-system partners for design of and integration of technology components
Contribute to project planning for development schedules, cost, and budget estimates
Participate in the selection, qualification, and management of vendors

Qualifications:
B.S. in Acoustics Engineering or equivalently related field; M.S. or PhD preferred
5+ years of experience in electro-mechanical product design with a minimum of 3+ experience with mechanical acoustic design
Thorough knowledge of acoustics, electro-acoustics, and mechanical design. Some electrical (analog and digital) audio design and test knowledge desirable
Experience and a theoretical knowledge in some or all of the following would be beneficial; statistical energy analysis, modeling of acoustic materials, testing for noise and vibration.
Experience in acoustic simulation and modeling using software tools such as Microcap, Spice, Actran, LMS/Sysnoise, Abaqus, Ansys, etc.
Strong knowledge of miniature acoustic transducer technology
Proficient at testing, characterizing and profiling audio hardware
Experienced in designing for large volume production in a wide range of manufacturing processes
Successful experience in meeting reliability requirements for mass production
