TERMS OF REFERENCE
UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA's services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.
Individual Fund Raising Manager, Jerusalem
BACKGROUND
The overall goal of the Individual Fund Raising Manager is to lead a pro-active approach to UNRWA's online fundraising and marketing outreach, resulting in the growth of funds raised through the agency online efforts. He/she will be expected to design and execute activities aimed at exponentially growing the number of online donations and the number of supporters in the global database.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop insightful, creative and effective marketing strategies and tactics aimed at achieving individual fund raising objectives;
  • Serve as support to UNRWA's National Committees activities in the field of individual giving.
  • Develop comprehensive plans to critically analyze the results of digital and offline direct marketing solutions;
  • Coordinate online strategies with offline marketing strategies;
  • Design, edit and produce content for direct marketing appeals and campaigns that is consistent with UNRWA's needs and priorities;
  • Optimize UNRWA's internet marketing efforts, including development and maintenance of the Private Partnerships section of website, landing pages and search engine marketing;
  • Create and oversee acquisition and retention strategies using email, direct mail, etc., to increase engagement and donation;
  • Manage direct mail and email marketing components from concept to execution;
  • Influence conversion through messaging, promotion, and landing page optimization, maintain consistent content, data and branding across all online marketing;
  • Manage the planning and buying of paid search and banner advertising as well as initiate and manage online viral initiatives and promotional partnerships;
  • Manage and execute community management processes (i.e. social media, blogging, etc.);
  • Develop and execute online giving programme;
  • Execute select campaigns, paid search and online syndication;
  • Manage efficient online payment systems;
  • Create, execute and oversee internet customer and volunteer acquisition efforts; develop and execute Internet acquisition objectives, plans and strategies;
  • Investigate new technology and enhancements to increase revenue, brand awareness and improve overall customer experience;
  • Oversee creative development and execution of all initiatives ensuring projects are delivered on time and in budget;
  • Write and submit monthly development reports for the Chief of Partnerships Division;  Analyze the effectiveness of current online fundraising and marketing activities through analytics and historical giving data and, accordingly, provide direction for individual giving activities;
  • Assess current online fundraising and marketing tools and vendors against industry standards to continually identify best practices and solution to meet UNRWA's needs.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Advanced University degree (MA) in business/marketing, communications, social sciences or a related discipline
  • At least 6 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in fund raising online. Direct marketing experience in implementing and managing individual giving and regular giving programmes required;
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English;
  • Proven ability to concept, manage, optimize and update an organization's website and to successfully create and execute other online and offline marketing and fundraising efforts;
  • Proven experience in developing and executing successful direct mail and email campaigns;
  • Excellent copywriting skills both in Arabic and English;
  • Experience developing successful social media campaigns.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in highly complex multicultural international organizations and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organizations. A natural team player with strong people management skills;
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with board members, volunteers, donors, prospects and staff.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with MS Access and/or Salesforce database management;
  • Knowledge of another language, preferably Spanish;
  • Experience in a for-profit sales environment preferred; non-profit experience.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
  • The duration of the assignment is for 12 months.
  • Remuneration for this consultancy will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
