    Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Chief, Administrative and Programme Services, the Associate Programme Officer:
    • Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.); acts as donor relation focal point; and assists in mobilizing funding for the institute's work programme;
    • Facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; monitors and analyses specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions, liaises with relevant parties, identifies and tracks follow-up actions;
    • Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, including proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparing background documents and presentations, handling logistics;
    • Provides substantive support for monitoring and evaluation functions, including analysis of emerging developments and funding issues and trends, and participation in impact evaluation or equivalent studies;
    • Analyses selected aspects of projects, programmes, operations and other activities including collecting, analysing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources;
    • Contributes to the preparation of a range of programme outputs, e.g., draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, and inputs to publications;
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

    Required qualifications and experience

    • Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Social Sciences or a related field;
    • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration or related area;
    • Professional experience in an international organization and familiarity with the United Nations system;
    • Excellent drafting skills with fluency in both oral and written English. Knowledge of other official UN languages would be an asset;
    • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

    Remuneration

    We offer a competitive net salary (tax-exempted) at P-2 level and allowances including post adjustment. Post adjustment is subject to change.
     
    The post carries the standard set of United Nations benefits and entitlements for international positions in the UN Common Systems, including participation in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, the possibility of participation in a health insurance programme, education grant, removal expenses and home leave.     The Rector reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a level below that advertised.

    Duration of contract

    This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment. The initial appointment will be for a period of two (2) years with the possibility of renewal on a rolling fixed-term appointment basis, subject to satisfactory work performance. The mandatory age of retirement for United Nations staff is 62 years.
     
    Staff members of the United Nations University are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Rector and may be assigned to any of the activities or offices of the United Nations University.
