UNOPS Nairobi Operational Hub (NAOH), located in Nairobi, Kenya, manages more than 60 projects in 10 countries, including Kenya,Somalia, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Eritrea.
NAOH implements projects in infrastructure, procurement, environment, health, grants management, financial management, human resources and advisory services. NAOH helps partners achieve their project goals in sectors including: governance, education, health, the environment, grant management and rural development.

UNOPS Nairobi Operational Hub (NAOH), has its own Physical Infrastructure Unit (PIU) which consists of design production office and engineering project management cell, consisting of civil, structural, M&E engineers, architects, design draftsmen and quantity surveyors. This team is supported by its own in-house procurement specialists and logistics support group who perform the tendering and admin support for all projects undertaken by the PIU. The PIU is providing design and implementation support via its team of site engineers based in Kenya, Burundi, Seychelles and throughout Somalia. All design drawings, specifications, bills of quantity and tender documentation are prepared in-house to ensure the highest quality, standards and contractual transparency. NAOH-PIU offers services that are complimentary to the front end of any physical infrastructure project including, feasibility studies, construction assessments, developing standard systems and manuals for infrastructure development with local government counterparts, detailed construction design and documentation with BOQ's and specification. It offers complete turnkey solutions to serve its clients' needs.

Functional Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
The Quantity Surveying Intern shall be responsible for assisting the Quantity Surveyors to ensure timely, cost effective and quality delivery of the projects. He/she reports will report to the PIU Deputy Manager and will be required to undertake the following tasks;
  • Assist in taking-off and calculation of quantities from architectural and structural drawings and details
  • Assist with tender process and support the preparation of contract documentation
  • Assist in preparation of valuations for contractors' payments
  • Assist with the valuation of variations
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining construction cost data
  • Assist in other areas as may be requested by the various members of the Engineering Department of the Project Implementation Unit, NAOH.
  • To perform any other task related to risk management as assigned by the RC/HC.
Competencies
  • Knowledge and capacity to prepare Bills of Quantities for building works to professional and accurate standards.
  • Good team player attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely and work in a team to support the delivery of successful projects.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with WinQs and other relevant Quantity Surveying softwares.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
  • Candidates must be studying for a university degree such as Bachelor or Masters preferably in Quantity Surveying. (or the equivalent), or have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the application date of this internship position.
  • Experience working in a busy Quantity Surveying office
