ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING
ITC's Market Analysis and Research Section (MAR) has developed and is continuously evolving a set of analytical tools that provide data on trade flows, customs duties and market access in a userfriendly and highly flexible way to thousands of users in the developing world. The tools are a key part of ITCs global public goods in market analysis and research. To retain and increase the value of the tools, the team must continually oversee data collection, formatting and reliability analysis of different types of market access data, including data on non-tariff measures (NTMs).
NTMs have become a major impediment to international trade and market access, and are of particular concern for exporters and importers in developing countries. ITC aims to contribute to a better transparency and understanding of NTMs, in particular through the implementation of representative company surveys at the country level. The surveys are based on a global methodology developed by ITC and are implemented in close collaboration with national survey specialists in charge of the interviews, who provide ITC with raw survey data.
MAIN PURPOSE AND KEY RESULTS EXPECTED
The outputs expected from this job are:
- Company survey data on NTMs and other data are collected, analysed, formatted and fed into a global database efficiently and effectively.
- NTM data quality is assured to the greatest extent possible through survey data verification and checks.
- Contribution to the drafting of selected NTM survey reports as well as presentations, joint publications, etc.
- Contribution to building the capacity of developing countries in undertaking and analysing NTMs and other trade and market access issues.
Under the direct supervision of the Market Analyst and under the general guidance of the Chief, MAR the incumbent will:
- Contribute to the improvement and maintenance of ITC's non-tariff measures survey and official databases;
- Contribute to the constant improvement of the survey methodology and implementation as well as to the data analysis by collaborating efficiently with the rest of the non-tariff measures team;
- Contribute to the checking and verification of raw survey data for selected NTM beneficiary countries – under the direct supervision of the NTM Country Managers;
- Contribute to the improvement of training materials for national consultants;
- Draft parts of NTM reports and assist consultants who are writing such reports;
- Provide backup support when needed to the project manager or NTM country managers, especially in responding to technical questions from local/national partners;
- Respond to technical enquiries using ITC's tools Trade Map, Market Access Map, Investment Map and Standards Map;
- Assist the NTM team in preparing technical, communication and marketing materials as and when necessary;
- Contribute to the official NTM data (i.e. laws, rules and regulations) quality control and processing for various countries;
- Perform other duties as required.
- University degree in economics, international trade or a closely related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of two years professional experience in economics, trade statistics, quantitative market research or international trade, including delivery of training workshops.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Skills to effectively supervise the collection of different types of data simultaneously; Capacity to develop and maintain a collaborative approach within the team, other parts of ITC and ITC's stakeholders;
- Training/Communicating skills required to guide consultants and report writers;
- Capacity to implement the full range of activities involved in data collection, analysis formatting and uploading to survey data;
- Capacity to develop methodologies for data quality checks and statistical analysis of survey data;
- Demonstrated experience in preparing statistical outputs in a very organised and systematic manner;
- Advanced knowledge of issues related to data collection, processing and analysis;
- Knowledge in the development, implementation of surveys and knowledge of Non-Tariff Measures.

Appointments with ITC are service-limited to this organization. The conditions of service are governed by the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations. This is a fixed term appointment.
INDICATIVE ANNUAL SALARY AT THE P-1 LEVEL
Annual Salary (net of tax) Starting from 37,273US$, with annual increments subject to performance. Post Adjustment In addition to the above annual salary a monthly post adjustment is paid. The rate at February 2014 is 104.7% of the monthly salary. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
