Job: Systems Administrator

Duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head, UNIX/LINUX Support, IMS:
  • Install, configure, deploy and support UNIX/LINUX systems hardware and software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts for commercial, open source and internally developed applications;
  • Provide system failure analyses and recovery, insuring the consistency and integrity of file systems and data;
  • Log changes to the operating system and utilities according to established procedures and, as directed in task assignments, evaluate and report the effects of reconfiguration on system performance;
  • Troubleshoot the course of interruptions or other problems in computer services and, as necessary to reconfigure operating systems or coordinate timely repair of systems covered by a third party vendor maintenance agreements;
  • Support the design, configuration, administration and troubleshooting of RedHat and Solaris multi-node clusters and virtual machines;
  • Support the design, configuration, administration and troubleshooting of Storage Area Network infrastructure, Network Attached Storage (NAS) and archiving systems;
  • Support the administration and configuration of central installation and configuration solutions;
  • Log changes to the operating system and utilities according to established procedures and, as directed in task assignments, evaluate and report the effects of reconfiguration on system performance;
  • Provide user support services to end users;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Completed secondary education and relevant technical training. Education beyond high school in a field relevant to the work highly desirable;
  • Extensive relevant working experience with Unix/Linux clusters in operational environments;
  • Certified RedHat Engineer;
  • At least three years of practical experience with Fibre-Channel based Storage Area Network in operational environments;
  • Practical experience with enterprise storage systems and network attached storage in an operational environment;
  • Working knowledge of hierarchical storage management systems;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential.

Remuneration/Contract:
Depending on qualifications and experience, indicative tax-free annual net base salary of Euro 47,536. The salary offered is subject to deductions of contributions to the CTBTO Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme or their approved equivalents. Short Term Appointments are not eligible for the employer's contribution to the Provident Fund or approved equivalent. Additional benefits include, when applicable, dependency allowance and thirty working days annual leave per year.
Short Term Appointments shall initially be made under a fixed-term contract for a period not to exceed three years, subject to the successful completion of the probation period set forth in the Letter of Appointment and annual review of performance and availability of funds.The successful candidate for this position shall be recruited under local terms of employment.
