OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The objectives of the Department of Mental Health and Substance abuse (MSD) are to reduce the burden associated with mental and neurological disorders, including substance use disorders, and to promote mental health worldwide. The mental health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) aims to achieve significantly higher coverage of key interventions for priority mental, neurological and substance use conditions in low and middle income countries.
Description of duties:
1.To support the program in developing, field testing and finalizing tools for mhGAP including training material.
2.To provide technical assistance to countries in implementing WHO mental health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) and Mental Health Action Plan.
3.To play an active support role in maintaining and revising WHO Mental Health Atlas and implementing WHO Assessment Instrument for Mental Health Systems (WHO AIMS).
4.To assist in WHO activities within the areas of emergency mental health, innovations in global mental health, epilepsy and dementia, as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential
University degree in psychiatry, psychology or a related health field.
Desirable
Advanced university degree in psychiatry, psychology or a related health field.

Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in delivery of mental health services; demonstrated skills for development of projects, scientific and educational publications in the field; demonstrated skills in developing partnerships for mental health initiatives and; excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Experience:
Essential
At least 5 years of experience in mental health services research or programme implementation. At least 2 years of experience working with low and middle income countries.
Desirable
Scientific publications on mental health services.
Experience in coordinating a large multisite international project.
Languages:
Expert knowkedge of English with intermediate knowledge of another UN language.

Annual salary:

USD 56,091 at single rate
USD 60,091 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment:
103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
