Organizational Setting and Reporting
The ESCAP South and South-West Asia Office internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension for up to six months, pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Optional Phase
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) South and South-West Asia Office based in New Delhi, is the latest office established in Asia-Pacific with the aim of strengthening the development pillars of the United Nations, in particular subregional activities for development. The office will provide interns with an opportunity to learn about key issues facing South and South-West Asia and possible policy options for promoting inclusive and sustainable development in the subregion. ESCAP-SSWA serves ten countries in the subregion, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Director, ESCAP-SSWA and the direct supervision of the Social Affairs/
Communications Officer, the intern will assist in a range of tasks, pertaining to strategic communications, digital and
social media outreach. He/she will help manage, recast and develop content for the ESCAP-SSWA webpages, social
media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube. He/she will also assist in a website migration process towards a new content management system-driven website.
He/she will undertake the following assignments:
Contribute to the development and implementation of a social media strategy
Actively conduct outreach communication activities, including drafting public information materials for the office's website/newsletter and for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook…)
Support live tweeting and press/web releases from events organized by ESCAP-SSWA
Assist with the website migration process (a one-off exercise to integrate the new website of ESCAP and its new content management system)
Assist in monitoring the ESCAP-SSWA website and the social media accounts and actively expand network of followers, generating and compiling Google Analytics email reports
Optimize website and social media tools to increase web traffic.
Plan and implement social media events.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school(second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least fours years of full-studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
