Organizational Setting and Reporting
This post is located in the Medical Services Section, Human Resources Management Service, Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva and will be at 50%.
Responsibilities
-Takes and analyses blood samples (biochemistry and haematology); carries out analyses using automated laboratory instruments and manual techniques.- Receive clients for their medical exams; - Analyses urine and faeces samples, undertakes parasite searches, etc.
- Participates in internal and external quality control of analytical methods.
- Undertakes maintenance of automated laboratory instruments.
- Performs electrocardiograms,
- Trains replacement laboratory staff.
- Performs hearing tests for staff at risk (interpretation service, publications service, pools, etc.) and provides follow-up.
- Performs sight tests and ocular pressure tests. - Manages and orders supplies of reagents and laboratory equipment (pipettes, urine specimen containers, tubes, etc.).
- Records test results in patients' files, calculates the additional constants and informs patients of results, with explanations from doctors where necessary; ensures that abnormal results are followed up. - Makes administrative and technical preparations for all clinical and paraclinical examinations (for medical examinations and various tests).
- Takes responsibility for preparing appropriate administrative files and forms. - Keeps laboratory statistics; updates inventory of laboratory equipment.
- Performs tests required for medical clearance; is responsible for scheduling medical examinations, making appointments and contacting staff members requiring medical examinations (new appointments, periodic examinations, missions, end of contract).

Education
Completion of secondary school or equivalent studies. Laboratory technician diploma. Training in audiometry and in Electrocardiogram. Successful United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT).
Work Experience
At least 7 years of experience in a hospital laboratory or medical analysis laboratory, preferably including 2 years in the United Nations Common System. Keeps abreast of available technology in biochemistry, hematology and immuno-assay. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the high school or secondary school diploma.
Languages
Fluency in French and English.
Assessment Method
A written test may be conducted followed by a competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Extension of the appointment is subject to Extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds.
Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers In accordance with established rules and procedures.
Appointment against this post is on a local basis and is open only to those who have been successful in the relevant entry level examination given by the duty station identified above.
