The Job:
The Center seeks a Graphic Designer to produce designs and final artworkfor publications, infographics and other items such as scientific and display posters,banners, tâ€shirts, and promotional gifts. The Graphic Designer is also responsible fortaking photographs of Center activities and events, including visitors, large groupphotos, and field days, and for promptly cataloging and sharing the images withcolleagues through an online database.
The position will be based at AVRDC's Headquarters in Shanhua, Taiwan and willreport to AVRDC's Head of Communications & Information. The Graphic Designerwill work very closely with the Communications and Information staff as well as theCenter's scientists and support staff.
This is a nationally recruited staff position and open for Taiwan nationals only.
The Person:
  • Applicants should have a BA or equivalent in visualcommunications/graphic design, with at least three years relevant workingexperience as a graphic designer.
  • Detailed knowledge of current graphic designpractices and technology (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat and other majorgraphic applications) and digital photography is required.
  • Strong organizational skills,attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines, and abilityto follow instructions are essential.
  • Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary,multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in spoken English; good written English wouldbe an asset.
  • Knowledge of video production a plus.
Description of duties:
The graphic designer is expected to have a goodunderstanding of the artistic and technical aspects of graphic design andphotography to carry out the following duties
  • Conceptualize artwork to be used for AVRDC publications and other itemssuch as scientific and display posters, banners, shirts, and promotional gifts;
  • Generate images, illustrations, infographics for use in print or on the web;
  • Design/layout AVRDC publication covers, brochures, and leaflets;
  • Create illustrations and charts based on quantitative data;
  • Work with printers to ensure quality press production;
  • Take photos of various AVRDC events;
  • Help create and maintain online photo archive;
  • Other tasks as directed by the Head of Communications & Information.
