ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING
The Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI) of ITC's Poor Communities and Trade Programme (PCTP) works through an inclusive business model. This business model allows micro-entrepreneurs and informal workers in the developing world to create income and wealth through their work. It is inclusive because it makes provision for gaps in the market environment and in local capacities which can prevent marginalized informal entrepreneurs/workers to be directly included in the formal economy such as:
- Lack of market linkages
- Lack of capacity in product development
- Lack of capacity in management of operations
- Lack of consumer awareness on the impact of goods produced in marginalized communities
- Lack of frameworks to involve buyers in trade with micro-producers Through the Initiative, a business support infrastructure fills these gaps by intervening in five areas:
- Establishing market linkages
- Product development
- Business and technical support for micro-producers (logistics, production etc.) including training and advice
- Raising consumer awareness and carrying out impact assessments
- Implementing of a clear Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme for all actors involved in the scheme ITC job openings are available on http://www.intracen.org/about/jobs/
