Job: Translation of Bangla to English of poor women's letters on their lives

Location: home-based (online volunteer)
Description

The Urban Partnerships for Poverty Reduction (UPPR) project aims at lifting three million people out of urban poverty. Women receiving the support from our project have written 17 letters telling their story on how their lives have changed. We want to share these with people that can take inspiration from these, globally. We will collect the stories in and make a book. For this, we are looking for volunteers that could help us translating the letters to English.
We will be in constant email or phone communication should this be required. The task should be completed in a reasonable time (e.g. 3-4 weeks), though our deadline is flexible. The online volunteer would be given due credit on the book, while UNDP will keep the rights of the product.
Number of volunteers: 2
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Urban Partnerships for Poverty Reduction project works with communities in 23 towns and cities across Bangladesh to develop the capacity of poor households, especially women, to manage their own development and tackle those needs they identify as most important. In order to provide this support to communities in poor urban areas the Government of Bangladesh and the United Nations work together to manage and implement UPPR, with funding from UK aid.
OBJECTIVE
Our knowledge/experience will help ensure that poverty reduction strategies in Bangladesh are most effective for the people who need them most. To achieve this, UPPR needs to share those success stories where our approach has had a transformative impact. The translation into English of the stories from our beneficiaries will help us maximize the reach of the material and hence, raise more awareness on urban poverty reduction.
