Senior Field Research Officer with the Research Group of 'Child Health Services' under the Centre for Child and Adolescent Health (Internal Advertisement #321/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates (Staff and CSA holders) for the position of Senior Field Research Officer with the Research Group of 'Child Health Services' under the Centre for Child and Adolescent Health. The appointment will be made on a contractual service agreement basis for 11 months, which may be extended for further period depending on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
Duty station – Matlab, Chandpur
Salary – Tk.42,237/- (consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. No other benefit is admissible.
Job Profile
Development of Standard Operating Procedures
  • Provide input to Research Investigator on standard operating procedures and manuals being developed;
  • Draft sections of manuals and guidelines relating to project implementation (quantitative research);
  • provide inputs to revise budgets;
  • Review operating procedures for adherence to quantitative research principles and make appropriate suggestions to Research Investigators in order to support the creation of sound operating procedure or guideline for field implementation.
Project Implementation
  • Communicate with Research Investigators for securing human resources;
  • Assist in recruitment activities (through providing exam papers, interview questions, input on profiles / CVs etc.); Plan for field work (allocation of locations and duties, requisitions for logistics / transport / petty cash etc.) and validate with Research Investigator;
  • Train field staff on research methods and protocol activities;
  • Secure buy-in from concerned authorities (e.g. community leaders, local government representations, religious leaders) about conducting the study;
  • Monitor field staff about the implementation of intervention and data collection activities and verify their quality of work through independent field visits;
  • Resolve issues, and raise escalations to Research Investigator, if required;
  • Prepare reports of field activities and maintain appropriate documentation in order to capture data and information for analysis .
Scientific Analysis, Knowledge Creation and Report Writing
  • Review field level activities and data collected;
  • Develop possible summary reports based on field activities under the guidance of the Research Investigator;
  • Gather feedback and make corrections to the report; Maintain appropriate documentation of field level activities in order to support scientific manuscript creation.
Mentoring and Training
  • Guide team members on completion of tasks, activities, reports and documents.
  • Mentor and train staff on-the-job in the field;
  • Promote a spirit of collegiality and gender diversity amongst team members and in the organization;
  • Encourage team members to collaborate for tasks; Set goals and conduct appraisals for the team;
  • Set high standards and confront poor performance where needed;
  • Mentor and prepare them for higher responsibilities;
  • Identify and reward high performers;
  • Recommend promotions;
  • Take appropriate actions to manage poor performance (such as creating Performance Improvement Plans, coaching, job rotations, planning separations from icddr,b) in order to build and develop an engaged and high performing team.
Requirements:
Education and Relevant Experience:
  • Masters in relevant subject such as Statistics, Applied Statistics, Anthropology, Sociology;
  • 5 years of experience in field research domain;
  • Experience in conducting large scale surveys or surveillance and developing training plan, providing training, and motivating staff;
  • Must be willing to stay full-time in Matlab south and north sub-district and travel frequently to the field.
Functional Competencies:
  • Very Good knowledge on data collection tools and methodologies;
  • Very good knowledge of Ethical Guidelines;
  • Good budgeting skills;
  • Good knowledge on Administrative policies and procedures of icddr,b;
  • Must have experience of driving motorcycle with valid license and willing to drive motorcycles for field activities;
  • Good proficiency in using software applications, particularly MS-Office and MS-Excel.
