Research Officer with the Research Group of Respiratory Vaccines under the Centre for Vaccine Sciences (Internal Advertisement #340/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates (staff members and CSA holders) for the position of Research Officer  with the Research Group of Respiratory Vaccines  under the Centre for Vaccine Sciences. The appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for 1 year, which is renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
Duty station – Dhaka
Salary – Annual Tk.400,630/- inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances with other admissible benefits.
Benefits/facilities – 14.8% retirement fund contribution by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,420/- per child per month, medical facilities for dependent spouse and children, group life insurance. Subsidized canteen, transport and daycare facilities subject to availability.
 Job Profil
  • Proposal and Protocol Development: Work with the  research team members in developing concept notes; Regularly study different published journals; Support research team, coordinators and PI  in  preparing of reports for collaborators and sponsors; Assess  lab staffing and material requirements for  specific lab tests for protocol execution in order to support creation of proposals and protocols with funding potential.
  • Project Implementation: Train  new team members and  lab technician  on research  specific lab works (sample storage, sample separation, basic lab tests and transportation of study sample to icddr,b, b main lab); Receive samples from clinical team & field staff  with appropriate document;  Make duty roster among lab team; Conduct  basic lab tests, and monitor tests done by  new  team members; Resolve issues, and raise escalations to supervisor, if required; Mentor and train staff on-the-job; Monitor and track consumption of resources in order to execute research protocols and interventions, and conduct high-quality research. 
  • Scientific Analysis and Knowledge Creation: Perform  lab tests based on direction from supervisor; Prepare report with findings and share with supervisor; Discuss with other team members regarding new lab procedure for new research protocol; Peer-review others' manuscripts and provide inputs in order to support scientific analysis. 
  • Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics: Raise requisition for raw materials; Prepare distilled water and sterilize containers;  Run quality and sterility check; Receive samples (from study clinic  and  field sites etc.); Prepare samples for testing using media; Perform tests based on request, following procedures and algorithm; Use appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during testing; Discard pathogens in Hypo-chloride; Neutralize harsh reagents before disposing PPE; Discard waste material in bio-hazard bag for autoclaving and incineration; Report results, maintaining strict confidentiality; Store samples for  future research;  Train  newly hired staff  and lab technician  on bio-safety procedures in order to protect  person to person transmission of infection;  Maintain temperature log for sample and investigational products freeze and fridger as well as maintain  temperature log in transit through cool box in order to carry out Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics smoothly.
  • Quality Assurance: Read latest literature regarding tests and procedures; Review and update quality assurance manual; Train other staff on quality processes;  Check adherence to quality assurance processes from collection to reception by the laboratory in order to monitor adherence to quality guidelines in laboratory test processes and results.
Requirements:
Education and Relevant Experience:
  • Masters in Biological Science;  
  • 5 years of experience in infectious disease research.
