ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Science Technician II works directly with the Conservation Information Manager III/GIS Coordinator to run GIS models assessing nutrient retention in the Cape Fear River basin. This work will help to identify and advance priorities for conservation actions. This will include all of the following:
- Gathers and synthesizes data relating to nutrient input, nutrient uptake, and conservation activities.
- Calculating input and export values for nutrients and conservation practices.
- Performing other GIS duties as needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in science-related field and 1 year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive experience utilizing GIS software and data, and to run models.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Experience managing databases and producing reports.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects and managing timeframes.
- Bachelor's degree in science-related field and 1-2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior field experience preferred.
- Knowledge of natural systems and natural systems management techniques.
- Analyzing, manipulating, and interpreting data, including statistics.
- Familiarity with GIS, including ability to utilize data to create appropriate maps.
- Database management skills including report production.
- Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
- Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.
- Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Web browsers).
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

- This is a part-time (19 hours/week) position with an end date of December 13, 2013.
