The Sustainable Procurement Practice Group (SPPG) at UNOPS leads the organization's sustainable procurement practice and is responsible for all matters of organizational development in procurement and supply chain management. It is responsible for developing procurement strategies, policies, and processes. SPPG providesauthoritative guidance and procurement advice. It enables oversight and develops procurement and supply chain knowledge networks and training tools to strengthen skills in public procurement while advancing sustainable practices. SPPG is also responsible for a significant percentage of the procurement volume of UNOPS which totalled 740 Mio. USD in 2012.
The Partner Outreach and Development team at SPPG is in charge of identifying and reaching out to key partners and donors in order to develop new opportunities in sustainable procurement. The team is responsible for the development of procurement products and services, the identification ok key partners and donors priorities and the strategic recommendations on how to develop our procurement activities. It liaises with the key units, other delivery practices as well as the regional offices to coordinate business development activities across the organization. It also provides direct support to procurement business developers in the field in terms of technical advice and acquisition.
UNOPS is looking for an intern to support the Partner Outreach and Development team in the areas of process analysis and partner outreach and development. The intern will work in close collaboration with various stakeholders of the Sustainable Procurement Practice Group and other business units of UNOPS.
The intern will be assigned a peer at UNOPS who will be responsible for the successful induction of the intern at UNOPS. The SPPG team rotation policy applies, i.e. the intern may have the possibility to take stages in different teams of SPPG, depending on his or her skillset and the duration of the internship.
Functional Responsibilities
UNOPS is looking for an intern to assume duties related to the following work programme:
Business Analysis and Partner Outreach
Support the Partner Outreach and Development team with regard to data collection, research and analysis on specific topics of strategic interest for UNOPS SPPG such as UNOPS capacity, donors priorities, aid dynamics, UNOPS business opportunities, etc. This will comprise, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Conduct data collection, research and analysis in order to identify UNOPS references, methodologies, client information and major achievements in the area of procurement of infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment and common user items, by reviewing UNOPS past project data/information and reaching out to the procurement officers/project managers when needed;
  • Develop a set of case studies based on a selected list of projects agreed with his/her supervisor. Develop a narrative in the agreed format in order to summarize and capture key information of the case study.
  • Identify best practices and lessons learnt and document such findings in a standardized format;
  • Design, coordinate and develop knowledge sharing methodologies and implement them across the organization;
  • Analyze strategic priorities and regional focus of identified key partners, such as bilateral donors, International Governmental Organizations (IGOs), International Finance Institutions (IFIs), NGOs and other such relevant donors;
  • Manage and develop work planning tools such as work plans, action lists and other relevant tools to structure work packages, assign responsibilities and follow-up on the implementation of action items;
  • Propose measures to improve the visual appeal of business development materials such as presentations, flyers and brochures and coordinate with graphics and design service providers to implement such recommendations.
Process Review and Optimization
The intern will provide support for the review of the contracts and property committee processes project, and perform related duties as required (document research, desk review, surveys, etc.). Specific deliverables will be agreed upon based on the qualifications and skills of selected candidate together with the supervisor.

Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education: To be eligible for an internship with UNOPS, you must currently study towards a Bachelors or a Masters degree preferably in the field of Business Administration, Finance, Economics, International Development or related field or have completed a University degree in this field within the past 3 years.
Work experience: For an internship, no work experience is required.
Language: Fluency in English and strong writing skills are required

Contract type: Internship
Contract duration: 3-6 months Interns at UNOPS do not receive any remuneration. As such, interns are responsible for all costs associated with the internship, including but not limited to costs for insurance coverage, travel and accommodation. However the interns may be eligible for a small stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions.
