At the core of Microsoft’s success is the developer community. A community that has become increasingly diverse and who are rapidly evolving in an emerging marketplace. The Developer Research Team is looking for a research and business consultant to support Microsoft-wide developer audience research. This consultant is responsible for delivering high-impact, actionable, market insights related to the developer community, big data category, and the app ecosystem. These insights will be structured to enable a variety of businesses to make informed and timely decisions, specifically focused on how to market, sell, and compete for the hearts and minds of developers.

We are looking for an experienced research consultant who can work with the business group’s marketing, engineering, and planning teams to build deep insights into actionable recommendations regarding the developer community. This research consultant will be responsible for understanding business group priorities and market drivers that yield actionable insights specifically focused on software developers, big data, and app ecosystems. The broad multifaceted nature of audience research demands individuals with organizational agility and proven project management expertise. 

Specific Responsibilities include:
• Managing a research portfolio covering audience research across a diverse set of business requirements 
• Building a deep understanding of individual business unit priorities and drivers as a means to provide deep action oriented insights and recommendations
• Develop a broad and rich understanding of key industry trends around developers, data, and apps 
• Collaborating across CMG research to build strong interconnections between research efforts that deliver a single face of market research to internal customers and external research partners.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
The ideal candidate will have at least 4-6 years of research and/or strategy consulting work experience in the high tech software industry. Successful individuals will have a demonstrated ability to create and manage the execution of research projects, generate customer and market insights, and tie these insights to actionable business recommendations. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in business or market research strongly preferred. International research experience is a plus.
• Expert in integrating customer research with large amounts of internal and external data (quantitative and qualitative) to develop strategic and actionable recommendations
• Strong knowledge of analytic and modeling tools (transactional level, segmentation/targeting using behavioral and demographic data preferred). 
• Must be knowledgeable with different quantitative and qualitative research techniques, have familiarity with both univariate and multivariate statistical techniques
• Excellent communications, storytelling, and influencing skills
• Experience in communicating and collaborating with senior executives 
• Project management (PMP) certification or proven track record demonstrating expertise in project management. 
• Experience managing research companies and partners
• Must be comfortable with “blank sheet of paper” exercise-must love creating and building, being smart about leveraging what is there, but also envisioning what isn’t there
• Highly proficient with Excel and Power Point
• BS/BA in quantitative business, marketing, research, or equivalent experience

Minimum Requirements:
• 4 years market technology or equivalent experience leveraging tools/systems to support business analytics, statistics and marketing research
• Experience in research or business planning for technology or B2B
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
