Organizational Setting and Reporting
The internship is located in the Regional Section for West and Central Asia, Integrated Programme and Oversight Branch, Division for Operations, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria).

Responsibilities
Responsibilities
The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:
providing assistance in the elaboration of advocacy material (including webpage) for the West and Central Asia portfolio through its regional and country programmes
drafting fortnightly Afghanistan briefing note, through the collection of Afghanistan related news and daily press clippings
providing assistance in the collection and elaboration of briefing material
providing assistance in appraisal of project ideas, documents and revisions and approval procedures
providing assistance with Project Progress Reports and reporting review in general
providing assistance in the elaboration of West and Central Asia funding status analysis and donors profiling
mission/event preparation/follow-up assistance
elaboration of maps outlining activities and priorities
any other duty related to regional section's work.

Education
Applicants for an internship must be enrolled in a full-time university degree programme (Master's or equivalent) in a graduate school (second university degree or higher), or, if applicants are pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, they must have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree. Master degree/PhD in International Relations, Political science or similar is desirable.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, but are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their application.
Applicants must have a keen demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of Russian is an advantage.

Special Notice
Duration: This internship position is for an initial period of three months, starting on 2 September 2013, with the option to extend to a total period of six months, based on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern.
This internship is unpaid. The intern will work five days per week (40 hours).
