Organizational Setting and Reporting
The internship with the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Field Support is for a minimum of four months with the opportunity for extension up to a maximum of six months depending on the needs of the Office. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the intern may include, but are not limited to:
a) Supporting the Front Office of the Under-Secretary-General, Department of Field Support in the preparation of reports both internal and external;
b) Drafting, writing and editing briefing papers and other written materials on field support issues for the use of DFS Senior Management;
c) Helping to prepare agendas and background documents, draft meeting notes and summaries, and track action items, specifically for the preparation of reports;
d) Assisting in the coordination of any issues within the department which come under the purview of the office of the Under-Secretary-General;
e) Carrying out research assignments on field support related issues;
f) Performing any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the
programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
