Organizational Context:
The post is located in the Internet Dispute Resolution Section of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, a resource center for the resolution of intellectual property disputes between private parties through methods other than court litigation. The Center's areas of activity are covered by three Sections: the IP Disputes Management Section; the Information and External Relations Section; and the Internet Dispute Resolution Section. The Internet Dispute Resolution Section is responsible for the administration of domain name disputes filed with the Center under different policies notably related to the Internet Domain Name System (DNS), as well as selected Internet policy developments as they relate to dispute resolution. As Head of Section, the incumbent contributes to the legal and organizational work of the Center and is primarily responsible for providing a quality service to users through the efficient management and administration of Internet dispute resolution. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of the Arbitration and Mediation Center and of the Deputy Director of the Arbitration and Mediation Center for specific assignments.
Main duties:
The incumbent performs the following tasks:
(a) Plan and supervise the Section's work and allocate resources based on determined priorities for the completion and timely and quality delivery of work products in accordance with commitments and results-based management principles.
(b) Manage staff of the Section and supervise and evaluate the work of the Legal Officers. Provide authoritative advice on the handling of complex and contentious issues.
(c) Oversee the appointment of WIPO panelists in accordance with related policies.
(d) Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely availability of a number of case-related resources.
(e) Develop contacts and enhance collaboration with the Center's users, relevant authorities, organizations and stakeholders. Provide legal and procedural advice on domain name dispute resolution.
(f) Represent the Organization at national and international meetings. Design, implement and participate in advisory and promotional activities, including seminars, workshops, panelists' meetings and training courses. Prepare documents and deliver presentations to identify potential areas for development and promote WIPO's role in the area of Internet disputes.
(g) Supervise the development and implementation of Internet dispute resolution policies.
(h) Keep abreast of developments in the area. Undertake research and write publications on Internet dispute resolution.
(i) Perform other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
- Advanced university degree in law.
Desirable:
- Including studies in intellectual property and/or alternative dispute resolution.
Experience:
- At least nine years of relevant professional experience including in intellectual property law or alternative dispute resolution in a law firm and/or department or agency.
Skills:
- Thorough understanding of the policies and procedures applicable to the work of the work unit.
- An understanding of the use of information technology in the context of dispute resolution processes.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.

Post adjustment:
96.5 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
Additional Information:
Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.
- Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance. No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.
