Field Assistant (Lab) (10 posts) with the Surveillance, Monitoring & Evaluation Research Group under the Centre for HIV and AIDS (Advertisement #268/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Field  Assistant (Lab) (10 posts) with theSurveillance, Monitoring & Evaluation Research Group under the Centre for HIV and AIDS. The appointment will be made on a Contractual Service Agreement (CSA) basis for 3 months.
Duty Station – CHIV field sites.
Salary - Tk.14,816/-(consolidated)  per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.  No other benefit is admissible.
Job Profile
  • Sample collection: Understand Universal Precaution and Bio-safety; Draw blood samples from key affected population groups for HIV (e.g. males having sex with males, male sex workers, hijra, drug users, etc) maintaining all aseptic precautions; Separate serum, aliquot and label samples appropriately; Discard sharps and other biohazard materials as per the protocol; Decontaminate the working site and autoclaving glassware; Fill up a brief questionnaire to collect socio-demographic and HIV risk behavioral information; Motivate study participants to provide blood samples voluntarily in order to enable the test of sample properly.
  • Sample transportation and preservation: Preserve samples as per the study protocol after collection in the field; Transport serum samples from the field sites to Virology Laboratory, icddr,b maintaining cold chain; Maintain register for samples collected; Store whole blood and serum samples at the  Virology Laboratory as per the study protocol in order to enable the required tests  properly.
Requirements
Education and Relevant Experience:
  • SSC passed or diploma in medical laboratory technology;
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as blood drawer in diagnostic laboratory, research study or similar setting.
Functional Competencies:
  • Knowledge of:
    • Biohazards, Bio-security and Bio-safety Requirements;
    • Ethical Guidelines;
    • Laboratory equipment usage;
    • Specimen collection and handling guidelines and techniques;
    • Waste management requirements.
Behavioral Competencies:

  • Able to communicate effectively;
  • Able to execute for results;
  • Able to adopt with continuous learning.
