Research Intern, ITDP Brazil Organization The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) works with cities around the world to promote sustainable and equitable transport and urban development. ITDP is a nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City with offices in China, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and the United States. ITDP's programs focus on bus rapid transit, non-motorized travel, travel demand management, parking, transport policy and urban development. More information about ITDP can be found at www.itdp.org. ITDP's work is organized around two global strategies: 'Better Streets' and 'Better Cities'.
  • 'Better Streets' is our Transportation program. It focuses on changing the streets through implementing sustainable transport corridors with great BRT systems with great bike lanes, sidewalks, pedestrian zones and public spaces.
  • 'Better Cities' is our Sustainable Development program. It focuses on changing the urban environment around those corridors. It will be focused on changing the way land is developed around BRT through zoning and parking regulatory reforms. In Brazil, we work with municipal government officials and society, using technical knowledge accumulated through experience in other countries, to inspire excellence in the implementation of best practice solutions and promote their potential for replication. Responsibilities The Research Intern will, under supervision of the Program Managers and Country Director, have the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of project planning and implementation. The key role of the Research Intern is to assist the Program Managers with specific assignments, such as:
  • Collecting data for technical assessments and case studies
  • Providing support for events, workshops and campaigns
  • Collaborate with ITDP staff to achieve communications deliverables
  • Report on progress of assignments on a monthly basis Key qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning or related field.
  • Currently undertaking graduate studies (Masters of PhD) in related field.
  • Knowledge of alternative modes of transportation, transportation policy and urban mobility. Key attributes
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and geographically distributed team.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and short-term deadlines.
