VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: PROGRAM OFFICER, ECOSOCC SECRETARIAT
The African Union, established as a unique Pan-African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa's rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of a new organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.

2. Main duties and responsibilities
Assisting to prepare, develop, organize, coordinate and ensure implementation of actions plans and implement program and activities of the ECOSOCC Secretariat;
  • Assisting the process of ECOSOCC link.ages with the AU Commission and policy organs, other component of AU, governance and development agencies in Africa and counterpart agencies of ECOSOCC in other regional bodies;
  • Assisting in support of ECOSOCC election process;
  • Assisting with the implementation of the Sectoral Cluster of ECOSOCC;
  • Assisting with basic research or monitoring and follow-up of decisions on the ECOSOCCinctuding Desk Operations;
  • Assisting in the organization of meetings, conferences, consultations with other agencies and partners as required;
  • Assisting in planning and preparation of budgets;
  • Preparing reports, briefs, outlines, speaking notes and papers on crucial and sensitive issues of concern to the SupervIsor and/or Secretariat and Directorate;
  • Write letters, documents, speeches and other correspondence as required by supervisor;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or other supervisors as designated;
3. Educational Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Social Science, Political Science, sociology or other relevant fields. In exceptional cases, candidates with a university degree and strong expertise in civil society management combined with adequate policy experience will be considered. , .
4. Work experience
Have at least 3 years of post-qualification experience in national, regional or international areas, with special emphasis on policy analysis and civil society matters and concerns.
5. Other Relevant Skills:
Have excellent drafting skills. Fluency in one official AU language. Have computer skills. Must be able to work under pressure, particularly as a professional civil servant in a multi-cultural environment. Demonstrate professionalism and ability to undertake studies and analytical skills associated with good decision-making. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Language Requirement:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be an added advantage.
7. Age Requirement:
Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.
9. Candidates from the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply:
Eretria, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.

11. Remuneration:
Indicative basic salary of US$ 29,287.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 14,414.40 perineum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
