CIFOR is looking for a Webmaster
Overview
The Multimedia Unit at CIFOR seeks a highly motivated and proactive Webmaster to help build and maintain a strong group of proficient developers and designers. This role encompasses project leadership, hands-on programming and troubleshooting, team mentorship and training, and client support. In addition, CIFOR is moving its websites to WordPress and requires a strong technical and team leader to support and mentor the Web Team through this transition.
Reporting to the Multimedia Services Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of CIFOR's multiple websites, including the corporate site, corporate blog and partner-supported sites. The Webmaster will manage incoming requests and organize the Web team's priorities and workflow accordingly. The Webmaster is also responsible for working directly with the Outreach team, CIFOR scientists, and others to plan and manage content creation and updates in a timely and effective manner.
This role offers the opportunity of a fast-paced and rapidly growing program. With CIFOR's wide variety of content and output formats, the Webmaster will be able to help innovate and improve our products and services in a creative and dynamic way.
Duties and responsibilities
- Serve as primary contact for Web task requests.
- Day-to-day tracking and management of client requests and regular content updates.
- Assist the Multimedia Services Manager to plan and coordinate new web products and services.
- Assess client and organizational needs to provide optimal solutions.
- Consult with clients and provide deadlines and costing for project requests.
- Plan, implement and manage web-based projects.
- Provide advice and recommendations to clients and managers on best practices.
- Manage the reporting and analysis of web statistics and metrics.
- Liaise with hosting providers and IT team to manage servers and domain ownership.
- Serve as technical lead for troubleshooting and day-to-day site maintenance, including establishing and managing regular security & optimization procedures.
Details of duties, assignments and objectives will be further discussed and then detailed in the annual performance contract/work plan for this position.
Requirements
Education, experience and technical skills
- 5+ years experience in website development on high-traffic, large-scale sites, with at least 1 year managerial experience;
- Expert in WordPress, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, Object Oriented Programming, HTML5, CSS3;
- Good MySQL knowledge;
- Able to write and edit clean, well-structured and well-commented code, and manage source versioning with GitHub or SVN as part of a standard workflow;
- Strong project management skills;
- Participation in open-source projects an asset;
- International experience, especially in the NGO or international development field, a strong advantage;
- Fluent in English.

- The contract will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of this position and available resources.
