Organizational Setting and Reporting
This post is located in the Monitoring, Evaluation, Risk Management and Statistical Verification Section (MERS), Central Planning and Coordination Service, Division of Conference Management (DCM).
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of Section, the incumbent:
- Sets up and maintains an automated managerial and performance reporting business intelligence framework for monitoring and evaluation. Builds a comprehensive set of web-based dashboards and automated statistical reports for DCM's performance management and reporting based on an opensource comprehensive business intelligence and analytics platform. - Provides specialized advice to users, analyzing users' requirements and translating these into new solutions; determines application systems integration and linkage issues, based on the opensource code-by-convention high-productivity web application framework for the rapid prototyping of web applications.
- Maintains, upgrades or enhances existing reporting systems, troubleshoots and provides continuing user support, to include resolving difficult problems. - Builds systems that uses and combines data, presentation or functionality from different in-house systems and sources to create new services and applications using a comprehensive ETL (Extract Transform and Load) tool for data integration. - Develops and maintains computer programs that require integration of many interrelated systems and program elements.
- Organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing test bases using an opensource portable software testing framework for web applications for test automation; assists users in acceptance testing. - Develops training materials, operating and user manuals; trains staff in assigned systems. - Researches, analyses and evaluates new technologies and makes recommendations for their deployment in the area of Service Oriented Architectures and Enterprise Service Bus. - Participates in writing reports and papers on systems-related topics, system requirements. - Provides input on extraction of data using dashboard applications of statistical evaluation. - Assists in the review of data integrity within DCM databases, identifies areas where data integrity is an issue and reviews an analyses business processes with the aim to improving data for statistical purposes. - Designs and implements the concept of the DCM Portal as a mean to integrate disparate content and resources into a coherent and unified environment, based on opensource standards based enterprise portal product.

Education
- Completion of secondary school or its equivalent technical or commercial school.
- Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT).
Work Experience
- At least seven years of information technology experience, of which four years preferably within the United Nations.
- Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the secondary school diploma or equivalent diploma.
Languages
- Fluency in English or French is required.
Assessment Method
- Competency-based interview. A written assessment may be conducted.
Special Notice
Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures. Appointment against this post is on a local basis and is open only to those who have been successful in the relevant entry level examination identified above.
