Description
DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Premises Security Officer, the Radio Operator will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Operate UN VHF/ HF networks according to Interagency Telecommunications System through VHF channels and HF base station;
  • Carry out regular and random/emergency radio checks with selected destinations and users;
  • Maintain personnel/vehicle tracking system for various field operations including UN agencies and report to operations/duty officers on a daily basis;
  • Monitor e-mail correspondence and maintain a written record of all movement of UN staff; Broadcast general security announcements and instructions to all call signs through UN channels/public information system according to security operations directives;
  • Exchange information with all Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) through their special channel;
  • Monitor radio traffic and maintain radio network discipline on air and reports any misuse; Log all incoming and outgoing communications;
  • Provide necessary information, call sign lists, telephone directory, assistance services and instructions for authorized users;
  • Assist the Unit Supervisor in preparing a seasonal frequency management plan;
  • Act as a switch board operator whenever required;
  • Receive, record and relay messages for UNAMI focal personnel and performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with technical certificate or Diploma in Radio Communication and or Information Technology.
Experience:
  • At least three years of progressively responsible experience in dealing with radio and or telecommunication equipment.
Language:
  • Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is essential. Other Skills: Proficiency in MS Windows, MS Excel and Internet Explorer.
