DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Senior Political Affairs Officer, the Language Assistant will perform the following duties:
  • Translate documents into Arabic and English;
  • Translate Arabic language feedback forms from the website and draft responses in Arabic as requested;
  • Attend meetings and act as a simultaneous/consecutive interpreter, take notes as requested;
  • Provide a high standard of accuracy, consistency and faithfulness to the spirit, style and nuances of the original and observes the established terminology and usage;
  • Type and edit all translations into Arabic and/or English;
  • Type, photocopy and manages office documents as requested;
  • Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Diploma in translation/interpretation from a recognized institution. University degree in languages and or translation/interpretation is an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position or in the field of translations in at the national level. Experience within UN system is an asset.
Language: Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is essential.
IT Skills: Proficiency in computer software applications (MS Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Lotus Notes).
