Summary
The Director, Major Gifts is based in Los Angeles, CA and reports to the Senior Director, Major Gifts (Regional) and will develop and implement an intensive fundraising strategy focussed on prospects for major gifts to Save the Children in the Southern California Region. This person will be responsible for maintaining relationships with existing major donors, identifying prospects, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding both new and existing donors. The Director of Major Gifts will be the primary point of contact for the L.A. Associates Volunteer Council.
Responsibilities
  • Provide input into the development of annual plans and the overall strategy to increase the numbers of high net worth donors with the capacity and inclination to make six and seven figure gifts and to increase the size of their gifts. Daily cultivation activities and relationship development with major donors and prospects, managing these relationships with donors and prospects and identifying, quantifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these donors. Research and write proposals. Monitor all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations. Maintain donor database.
  • Donor and prospect development: Develop strong strategies to grow and expand major giving opportunities in Southern California.
  • Execute donor cultivation strategy and make ongoing assessments about the efficacy of that strategy and made changes and engage others as needed. The Director, Major Gifts will be responsible for self-measuring against revenue goals and meeting these goals. Meet assigned targets.
  • Act as the point of contact for L.A. Associates volunteer council: Partner with LAA leadership to effectively identify, cultivate and strengthen MG donor relationships within this organization.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with other departments in Save the Children: Participate with Major Gift's team and Resource Development activities. Work with and in support of volunteers other development staff and other Save the Children staff to cultivate donors. Assist in programming with Senior Management in Resource Development.
Requirements
  • BA degree and a minimum of 7-10 years fundraising experience.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with a variety of constituents and proven ability to build strong working relationships with high net worth individuals.
  • Proven track record of raising six and seven figure and planned gifts.
  • Exceptional listening skills, able to understand the needs and motivations of others, find common ground and build trust with internal and external stakeholders, and synthesize a wide range of information into compelling narratives.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Professional presentation and demeanor.
  • Detail oriented, strategic thinker.
