Duties & Responsibilities
The Court Interpreter (Arabic), will work in the Court Interpretation and Translation Section within the Division ofCourt Services, under the supervision of the Head of Interpretation Unit and under the broad supervision of the Chief of Section. He or she will work in a demanding and high-pressure but rewarding environment.
The Court Interpreter (Arabic) will be expected to:
  • Provide simultaneous interpretation of court proceedings and other events held at the seat of the Court orelsewhere;
  • Provide consecutive and chuchotage interpretation as required;
  • Prepare thoroughly for interpretation assignments;
  • Observe the established terminology and usage of the Court;
  • Actively contribute to the terminology and reference databases of the Section;
  • Act as chef d'équipe on a rotating basis;
  • Mentor less-experienced interpreters;
  • Take part in regular training sessions with a view to refining his/her interpretation skills and
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Chief of Section, including translation if necessary.
Essential Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
  • An advanced degree in interpretation, translation, languages, law or any other relevant subject;
  • Five years of simultaneous interpretation experience (seven years with a first level university degree), withpreferably at least two years in an international organisation;
  • Good research and computer skills;
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, flexibility, initiative and openness to skills development.

KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES
Mother tongue proficiency in Arabic, a high level of proficiency in English and/or in French. Ability to interpretfrom one other official language of the Court (Chinese, Spanish or Russian) could be considered an asset.Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take the ICC interpretation test.
