Background/general context:
The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations and the principal forum for cooperation between postal sector stakeholders, establishes the rules for international mail exchanges. It has 191 member countries and has its headquarters in Berne.
Its primary objective is to encourage the provision of a quality postal service that is accessible to all, and its core mission is to develop social, cultural and commercial communication between peoples.
Main duties:
The trainee will assist his/her manager and regulatory affairs experts in:
  • Researching the regulatory issues in the worldwide postal sector including liberalization, competition and the European Union's regulatory issues
  • Evaluating their possible impact on the UPU and UPU member countries
  • Analysing regulatory aspects of universal postal service of UPU member countries
  • Organizing international conferences to promote 'best practice' experiences in the organization of postal markets
  • Updating the information about the status and structures of postal entities of UPU member countries, including the standard publication
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • The successful candidate has already completed a Bachelor degree and is (or will be) enrolled in a Master or doctorate program in public administration, international relation, affairs, cooperation, economics, law or similar disciplines.
Technical knowledge
  • The successful candidate's present university course or previous work experience should demonstrate his/her capacity to elaborate practical reports and to perform documentary research. Research and written deliverables of the internship will be conducted in English.
Skills and abilities / competencies:
  • Proven analytical and writing skills are required
