Junior to Mid-level Editor, Washington, D.C.
Project/Proposal Summary
MSI seeks a junior to mid-level editor to work full-time in tandem with MSI's senior editor out of the home office in Washington. The successful candidate will edit and contribute to business proposals; edit periodical reports, work plans, project closeout reports, and training documents; and write promotional material for a wide audience.
Position Summary The editor will work across all MSI projects, spending most of the working day editing for clarity, logic, and brevity and ensuring that text is in American standard English. She or he will be expected to learn about all of MSI's projects, both from reading about them and by interviewing the firm's project managers and technical directors. The editor also will contribute to MSI's in-house style guide.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Some news writing.
  • Some résumé writing.
  • Assisting the senior editor in sharing knowledge across departments.
  • Assisting the senior editor in training MSI employees.
  • Much "document management."
    Qualifications
  • Two to seven years' professional editorial experience.
  • Experience in both print and Web publications.
  • Love of the English language.
  • Expert knowledge in American standard English.
  • Knowledge of Chicago and AP styles a must; knowledge of GPO style a plus.
  • Minimum of bachelor's degree; master's degree a plus.
  • Knowledge of international affairs—especially of the developing world—not necessary but will be considered in weighing comparable candidates.
  • Knowledge of InDesign a major plus.
