Program Overview
The Finance Department works in partnership with other Pathfinder International departments to develop budgets, implement and manage financial control measures, establish policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, and governmental and nongovernmental grant requirements.
Position Purpose
The Senior General ledger Accountant is a key member of Pathfinder International's finance team with responsibility to assist in completing the financial consolidation process and to ensure accounts are reconciled timely. S/he is responsible for the analysis and preparation of certain financial reports, optimizing workflow, harmonizing processes to ensure an accurate and timely close and coordinating and documenting accounting processes based on different ERP systems. The Senior General Ledger Accountant is also responsible for reconciling assigned balance sheet accounts, reconciling consolidated intercompany accounts, and processing global consolidation activities.
This role will require strong communication skills as it involves cross functional interaction across the global organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinates monthly consolidation to allow countries to report accurately and timely
- Creates/maintains global chart of accounts and structure in all financial systems
- Manages consolidation process to ensure global consolidation allocations and processes are accurately recorded
- Processes monthly journal entries and maintains closing log and schedule
- Generates trial balances and other reports after performing review and corrections of errors
- Assists with the review, approval and posting of general journal entries for propriety and integrity of account distribution
- Reconciles global intercompany accounts and researches and resolves out of balances
- Reconciles certain HQ balance sheet accounts and researches and resolves out of balances
- Contributes in the completion of the financial reporting process in accordance with Pathfinder International guidelines
- Works with the Controller to identify ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting and assists in initiatives to implement improvements
- Assists the Controller to ensure the completeness, consistency, accuracy, and clarity of the financial statements in accordance with US GAAP requirements
- Assists in preparation of government surveys and ensures timely and accurate submissions
- Optimizes workflow and harmonizes processes. Coordinates and documents accounting processes based on different ERP systems
- Collaborates with others in the completion of special projects
- Performs other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements
- BS in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field required
- Minimum of four years of total professional Finance/Accounting experience
- Strong MS Office skills (in particular Excel, Word and Outlook) and experience with accounting software.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures
- Professional integrity, honesty, initiative, and dependability
- The commitment and ability to excel in a fast paced environment, work effectively under time pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively with diverse finance colleagues across a global organization
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including experience in translating financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance managers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (in English)
- Strong quality management knowledge and skills, including the ability to improve processes, promote excellence and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
- Solid analytical, problem solving and financial troubleshooting skills
- Experience coordinating audit activities and analyzing accounting data reports
- Ability to quickly learn new systems, processes and procedures and adapt local practices to global standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Six to eight years of total professional Finance/Accounting experience
- Experience with consolidations
- Experience working in a non-profit global organization
- Experience with Serenic
- Experience with government grants and contracts
- CPA certification
