Overview:
The Business Applications team aims to ensure that the supply of information management and technology (IM/IT) services matches the demand from the business while balancing the flexibility benefits of local solutions with the efficiency and cost benefits of an enterprise-wide view of IT application architecture. The team works towards these goals by:
(i) ensuring the stability and sustainability of day-to-day business operations as supported by the portfolio of applications under its management;
(ii) viewing IM/IT investments, project management and performance measurement from a business benefit perspective;
(iii) promoting the emergence of a bank-wide framework for managing IM/IT applications and increasing the value of IM/IT investments in applications; and
(iv) developing the technical expertise of IT staff across business boundaries.
The team comprises the following sub-units: Architecture and Quality Assurance; Collaboration; PeopleSoft; Data and Analytics; and Database Management Services.
Purpose of the job:
The Applications Architect fosters and promotes standard development tools, methods and architecture standards for the development of in-house applications and the integration of vendor packages, as well as advising business areas and IMS on application architecture and liaising with IT infrastructure architects.
The primary focus will be on Banking applications and statistical data processing applications.
Principal accountabilities:
  • Contribute to the establishment of a clear vision on how to improve the efficiency and productivity of application development at the Bank.
  • Act as an expert adviser on applications architecture and technological roadmaps.
  • Jointly with IMS developers and business unit IT functions, define and promote common architecture principles, standards, tools and implementation methodologies.
  • Ensure the provision of software infrastructure services (eg TFS, Visual Studio, Eclipse, BizTalk).
  • Promote technical exchange among developers.
  • Contribute to IT projects in the role of architect and/or senior developer.
  • Contribute to the assessment and bench-testing of IT solutions at the feasibility phase.
  • Perform pre- and post-project architecture reviews.
  • Help in the management of the current portfolio of application development tools provided to developers across the Bank and ensure that these tools evolve over time to meet developers' needs.
Qualifications and work experience required:
  • Master's university degree or equivalent experience.
  • Additional professional certification as an IT architect desirable.
  • At least five years of experience as a senior systems developer and/or architect.
  • Good functional knowledge of Banking activities and/or statistical data processing (collection, validation, analysis and processing).
  • An additional advantage would be experience of how applications can interact with related technologies such as SharePoint, Business Intelligence tools, SQL Server SSIS and MDM.
  • Experience in time series modelling is an asset.
Skills required:
  • In-depth knowledge of the Microsoft development stack (C#, .NET, WCF, WPF, ESB) and related ALM tools (eg TFS).
  • Good knowledge of the Java development stack, including web-development (eg JSF).
  • In-depth knowledge of integration patterns and tools and/or high data-volume systems.
  • Strong applications architecture and data modelling skills.
  • Strong system administration/configuration skills (eg application server, web servers).
  • Good understanding of security concepts (eg encryption, role-based security).
  • Quick learner; able to keep up with technical innovations and to identify opportunities in deploying them to the BIS environment.
  • Technical guru; able to come up with solutions to difficult technical issues, autonomous, not afraid of rapidly acquiring new skills.
  • Very good communication and presentation skills; ability to establish strong working relationships with IMS and business area IT developers.
  • Ability to elaborate applications architecture strategies; forward-looking in providing software infrastructure services.
  • Customer- and service-oriented.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).
