Internally advertised General Service (GS) fixed-term appointment (FTA) positions located in Headquarters are open to GS staff members currently serving in New York/Washington D.C. who hold a UNDP permanent or FTA who are either US Permanent Residents, US citizens or holders of a valid G4 visa at the time of their application and whose G4 visa has been acquired on account of their employment in the UN Systems based in New York or Washington, DC.

Externally advertised GS fixed-term appointment and temporary appointment (TA) positions located in New York/Washington D.C. are open to candidates who are either US Permanent Residents, US Citizens or holders of a valid G4 visa at the time of their application and whose G4 visa has been acquired on account of their employment in the UN Systems based in New York or Washington, DC.

Current UNDP GS staff serving outside of HQ must meet the eligibility criteria stated above prior to their application.

Selected candidates who meet the above mentioned eligibility criteria are responsible for their own travel and/or relocation costs.

Selection to GS fixed-term appointment positions at Headquarters requires passing a UN administered clerical test (ASAT).

Applicants under serious consideration for short-listing of posts requiring accountancy and finance skills, must take the UNDP Accountancy and Finance Test (UNDP AFT) prior to short-listing.
Background
The UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the UN Women Executive Director and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Upon the request of the supervisor, the Driver can be also required to provide driving services to the other staff in the Office, consultants and experts and UN staff on mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions: 
  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services;
  • Proper use of vehicle;
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle;
  • Administrative support.  
Provision of reliable and secure driving services:
  • Manages the day to day secure movements of senior UN Women Executive Director, her family, and other high-ranking officials, and carries out all other assignments assigned;
  • Operates UN Women executive vehicle for the safe transport of authorized passengers;
  • Ensures that all passengers wear their seat belts at all times in the vehicle;
  • Enforces the no smoking policy in the vehicle;
  • Facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required;
  • Conducts advance review of travel itinerary in order to determine safest travel routes, location of emergency services facilities, and available emergency response options;
  • Ensures that established SOP is implemented in the case of a vehicle accident or other emergency;
  • Coordinates special services required for visits of foreign dignitaries to UN Women Office in Daily News building;
  • Ensures that all vehicles comply with the Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS);
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents;
  • Performs other related duties as required. 
Proper use of vehicle:
  • Maintains official logbook of travel, daily mileage, gas consumption, and vehicle maintenance;
  • Keeps abreast of traffic rules and regulations as well as road security and safety awareness to enable safe on time arrival for meetings. 
Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle:
  • Ensures that the official vehicle is kept clean and is always in good working order;
  • Provides inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
  • Performs daily security and safety inspections of vehicle and its associated emergency equipment;
  • Maintains the upkeep of maintenance and repair documents associated with the vehicle;
  • Keep track of insurance and applicable tax formalities. 
Administrative support:
  • Assists office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining required records;
  • Assists in the mailing and distribution of publications and payment of bills, as required.
Impact of Results:
The key results impact on the safety, accuracy and timely work of the Executive Director. It also impact on the image and credibility of UN Women presented to visiting dignitaries from Government/UN/Donors etc.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Secondary Education;
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license with clean driving record.
Experience:
  • Three year work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record;
  • Experience in minor vehicle repair and vehicle maintenance routines;
  • Prior experience in personal protection for governmental or executive VIP and knowledge of security management and risk management practice highly desirable.
Languages:
  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of the other UN working knowledge is an asset.
