Purpose of the Position
The Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) section within PFP works with National Committees and UNICEF country offices to maximize income and drive income growth. There are five units within the PSFR section. The purpose of the Market Development team is to grow income from National Committees. The Unit will achieve this by working with National Committees to set and implement national PSFR plans in alignment with global strategies. The Unit will ensure UNICEF`s support to, and investment in, National Committees is prioritized so that income growth is optimized and all Committees receive a core level of support from UNICEF. This post works with the Chief of Market Development to help maximize private sector income from the largest and most important National Committees, in particular working with them to help develop the right fundraising strategies and plans for their market conditions. The post holder will help ensure that global best practice is effectively implemented in the specified National Committees. As part of the Market Development team, within the PSFR section, they will contribute to maximizing PSFR from the family of UNICEF National Committees.
Key Expected Results
1. Under the guidance of the Chief of Market Development, works with National Committees defined as high growth and/or high potential to develop detailed fundraising plans and strategies, aligned with global priorities. Works with the National Committee Relations team to ensure that fundraising plans in the Joint Strategic Plans (JSPs) are developed in an appropriate and timely manner. Works with PSFR specialists to ensure that appropriate support is provided to defined National Committees. This includes preparing proposals for UNICEF investment funds. Key End Results: Defined National Committees plans are aligned to the global priorities and income is maximized.
2. Monitors and evaluates the PSFR performance of high growth/high potential National Committees identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This includes detailed analysis of annual PSFR results by channel, income type and comparison to long term targets. Key End Results: National Committee performance effectively monitored with lessons learnt and annual improvements made.
3. Supports knowledge management through the stimulation and dynamic exchange of knowledge across fundraising markets and drives the application of global best practice by defined National Committees. Stays in touch with latest thinking and trends in PSFR and contributes to UNICEF's global fundraising expertise. Key End Results: Knowledge is created, shared and applied to optimize PSFR and National Committees provide positive feedback on the use of best practice.
4. Acts as back up focal point for the strategic development of PSFR for National Committees defined as high growth and/or high potential. Key End Results: High level of support provided to high growth/high potential National Committees
5. Provides detailed guidance on emergency fundraising preparedness plans in defined National Committee so that committees support the maximization of ORE fundraising. Key End Results: ORE income from defined National Committees maximized
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
- Academic qualifications: Advanced university degree in marketing, economics, social sciences, fundraising, international relations, communication, business administration or equivalent. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience with fundraising and management responsibility in a leading non-profit organization. Preference will be given to candidates with international fundraising experience and those with experience as a Fundraising/Marketing Manager with responsibility for significant (i.e. multi-million $) annual income targets and expenditure budgets and for a broad fundraising portfolio i.e. multiple income channels including pledge, corporate, legacies, major donors, and foundations. Knowledge of the UN system is an advantage.
- Language requirements: Fluency in English is required and working knowledge of another UN language is preferred. Knowledge of other National Committee languages is an asset. Competencies of Successful Candidate - Has highest-level communication skills, including engaging and informative formal public speaking.
