Organizational Setting and Reporting
This post is located in the Office of the Chief Integrated Support Services (CISS) of the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire. The incumbent will report to the Head of the ISS Planning Unit.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for some or all of the following duties:
  • Acts as the logistics coordinating link between logistics clients such as military, police or other substantive components at mission or sector/regional level, logistics teams, Integrated Support Services Sections and Units, the Regional Administrative Officer (RAO), the Chief Logistics Base(s), and JLOC at Mission HQ.
  • Acts as a focal point in the preparation of the logistics plans and cost estimates.
  • Aware of all logistics needs and equipment maintenance in each location in the mission and coordinates the re-supply/maintenance.
  • Assists in the preparation of technical specifications for goods and services requested by customers, the raising of requisitions, and the maintenance of computerized procurement records.
  • Operates a field storage facility; maintains control and accountability of all stored assets; supervises warehouse personnel.
  • Plans for and supervises periodic physical inventories of expendable and non-expendable assets, and reports results.
  • Oversees the accurate and timely maintenance of computerized inventory records
  • Receives and analyzes transportation requirements, develops practicable methods to satisfy them and coordinates implementation.
  • Conducts reconnaissance to identify suitable locations for working and living premises and provides sufficient information to procurement staff for subsequent rental action.
  • Analyzes contingent owned equipment (COE) memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and determines reporting requirements; conducts verification inspections of COE, prepares reports and maintains the COE database.
  • Receives, stores, controls and accounts for Petty Cash and Imprest Funds.
  • Reviews and submits Damage and Discrepancy Reports and Vendor Performance Report through appropriate channels.
  • Prepares training activities for subordinates to improve their technical competencies.
  • Coordinates a training curriculum based on mission standards and requirements, conducts demonstrations, workshops and seminars on logistics operations.
  • Manages a unit and supervises assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational certificate in logistics, transportation, supply management, business administration or related fields is a requirement.
Work Experience
At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience of practical field logistics operations.
Languages
Fluency in English and French (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
